GUEST LECTURE ON SPINAL CORD INJURY - June 2024
A guest lecture on the topic “Spinal cord injury and its rehabilitation” was organised by the Department of Neuro-Physiotherapy, St Andrews college of Physiotherapy in association with Association for people with Disability (APD), Pune on 14th June 2024. Dr Adarsh, Physiotherapist of APD delivered the guest lecture. The aim of this lecture was to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the spinal cord injury, signs & symptoms, various causes along with community-based rehabilitation strategies, followed by practical demonstrations. Key topics covered by him include causes, types, signs & symptoms of spinal cord injuries. The students from third and final year actively participated in the Guest lecture. One of the highlights of the lecture was a practical demonstration by Mr. Someshekar who is a peer trainer. He showed proper wheelchair transfer techniques by an individual living with a spinal cord injury. The demonstration illustrated safe and effective methods for transferring between surfaces, going up and down the stairs and ramp. He also showed his special bike attachment of his wheelchair.
