PHYSIOTHERAPY SCREENING CAMP – Sept’ 2019
On 27th September, 2019 St. Andrews college of Physiotherapy organized a screening camp for visually handicapped school children at Patashibai Lunkad blind school, Bhosari. The students and faculty boarded on the bus to Bhosari to visit the blind school and reached the venue by 11:00 am. The camp began with a prayer service performed by the children of the school.
Dr. Albin Jerome, Principal of St. Andrews college of Physiotherapy then felicitated Mr. Salunkhe, Principal of the blind school. He then informed everyone about the great achievements of the school children in various events such as essay writing, cricket, knitting, painting etc. Dr. Gaurai then took over and explained everyone the purpose of the screening camp and the procedure of evaluating the balance of the school children using the Pediatric Balance Scale. The students of Physiotherapy College then started assessing the balance of the children one by one. They started with the demographic data and then documented the scores of the scale.
Around 1 pm everyone headed for lunch. The lunch was organized by the cooks of the school. After lunch, the second session of the camp began. 70 students were assessed for balance on the basis of the Pediatric balance scale. The specially abled children of the school were very cooperative which made it easier for our students to carry out the screening process. After all the children were assessed, the physiotherapy students interacted with them and came to know about their daily routine. The physiotherapy students then bided a farewell to the children and the day ended with a sense of satisfaction of being able to do something for the specially abled children. Dr. Gaurai gave the vote of thanks.
